Why wild boar for pets?
Many dogs and cats with food sensitivities react to the proteins they have eaten most: chicken, beef and dairy. Veterinarians often suggest a novel protein — one the animal has never eaten — for an elimination diet. Wild boar is one of the most common novel proteins in limited-ingredient pet foods because few pets have been exposed to it.
Our pet products are single-ingredient: wild boar and nothing else. No grains, fillers, seasoning or preservatives.
Talk to your vet first. If your pet has a diagnosed condition, ask your veterinarian before changing its diet. A balanced raw diet needs the right ratio of muscle meat, organ and bone — our pet grind is a base ingredient, not a complete and balanced diet on its own.
Handling raw pet food safely
- Keep frozen until needed; thaw in the refrigerator in a sealed container.
- Wash bowls, boards and your hands with hot soapy water after preparing raw food.
- Do not leave raw food out for more than 30 minutes; refrigerate leftovers and use them within two days.
- Raw bones only. Never feed cooked bones — they splinter. Always supervise chewing and take bones away when they get small enough to swallow.
- If you would rather cook, lightly cooking the pet grind removes most handling concerns.
Where our pet products come from
Hogs that hunters bring to our plant field-dressed are processed into pet food, because USDA rules allow only live-inspected animals to be sold as meat for people. These are the same wild Texas hogs, handled under the same field-dressing rules: gutted within 30 minutes of the kill, organs left on for inspection and delivered to the plant within six hours.
